Message from Mayor of Idanha-a-Nova
With almost 100 years of existence as a sport, was in Sweden that the practice of orienteering took the first steps. In Portugal, the sport just became available for everyone in 1984, and since then has recorded an increase of athletes, experiencing a remarkable growth in the past 15 years, providing many people very close contact with nature.
Frequent place of national and international sport events of national, the terrain features and natural beauty of Idanha-a-Nova’s region presents ideal conditions for the practice of Orienteering. Here took place in recent years, several competitions for the National and Iberian Orienteering League and Adventure Racing activities.
The organization of Portugal "O" Meeting 2013, which will take place from the 9th to 12th February in Idanha-a-Nova, in partnership with ADFA, seeks to prove the ability of both to organize big events, able to secure gains to the territory, to promote it as a nature destination and the most important, provide a good time for all athletes in the competition.

Message from the POM 2013 race director
In the role of event director, both me and ADFA’s orienteering club are glad to invite you to Portugal “O” Meeting 2013, which includes a World Ranking Event (WRE) race in the 3rd day of competition.
The choice regarding the best area for POM 2013 was natural. Apart from the excellent relationship between ADFA orienteering and Idanha-a-Nova’s municipally, developed in the organization of previous events, the region offers high quality terrains, which shall be pleasant to which one of you.
Idanha-a-Nova’s region also offers a huge variety of touristic and gastronomic choices, of which the village of Monsanto stands up, as being the oldest village in Portugal.
These are reasons why both me and ADFA’s orienteering team are eagerly waiting for your presence in our event. We promise full commitment in order to be up to standards.
The Event’s Director,
Mário Duarte
