Gouveia offers an authentic experience of alternative tourism, being the sensations, the nature, history, the monuments, the gastronomy, sports and the culture its major atractions.

Located on the northeast hillside of Serra da Estrela, Gouveia is surrounded by great granitic rocks. The beautiful landscapes invite you to discover the Nature, as well as our traditions and people.

With an area of 6 hectares, the Ecologic Park of Gouveia allows the visitant to have direct contact with the Nature. Here, you may get to know Serra da Estrela’s fauna and flora, uniting leisure and environmental education.
 

Furthermore, Senhora dos Verdes Park has in its nature surroundings and adventure two strong attraction points. The park offers a combination of activities (pool, mini-golf, playground, etc) and provides you with more active moments on the paintball field, on a kart ride or on rappel. The park also has infrastructures for corporative meetings, events or exhibitions.
 

Gouveia offers numerous outdoors activities. Reunite your family and try the Municipal Net of pedestrian trails or explore the BTT trails that challenge the hillsides of Serra da Estrela and the Mondego trail.
 

To explore the city, wander around its streets using the Urban Guide of Gouveia. A walk that is like a re-creation of the city’s most emblematic monuments.
 

Visit Melo, the birthplace of the Portuguese writer Vergílio Ferreira, and explore the Vergilíano Route. The route includes an historical write-up on the writer, its literature and some of the places that were part of his life. Revealing all his work, the Vergílio Ferreira room on the Municipal Library of Gouveia is another place you must visit.
 

During your stay in the city, visit the Miniature Automobile Museum. It is an unique museum in the entire country, providing leisure and pleasure to everyone that love automobiles and collecting. Here you will find the best collections of automobile miniatures that exist in Portugal.
 

Furthermore, you can visit the Municipal Museum of Modern Art Abel Manta. The museum is the most important artistic center of the region. The work of art of João Abel Manta is the masterpiece of the museum and reflects a peculiar and discreet influence of the post-impressionist period. In the museum you can also find works of art of authors such as Júlio Resende, Menéz, Paula Rego, among others. 
 

Besides all the cultural and leisure offer of this region, it is impossible to mention Gouveia without mentioning its flavours. Its Gastronomy as conquered numerous fans all over the country and even across borders. The Portuguese smoked sausage, black pudding, goatling, trout, “carqueja” rice, lamb “alambicada”, rice pudding made of goat milk, and obviously the Serra da Estrela cheese, among others, are some of the specialities you can find in Gouveia.
 

To go along with the great gastronomy, you have to taste the great Dão wine. With an intense aroma and refined flavour, the wines produced in our farms go perfectly along with our typical dishes.
