Classes
Foot-O Competition
The available classes will be the same for the Forest and Sprint events.
In the table below, you can find the available classes, the expected distances for the Middle and Long distance races, as well as the map scale.
The Forest competition is decided on the last stage with a chasing start for everyone, except T10, M/W12 and Open classes.
TrailO Competition
For the PreO Sprint event, the Open and Physically Challenged classes will be available.
Chasing Start for all Competition Classes
On the final day, based on the results of the three forest races from the previous days, all competition classes will start using a Chasing Start format.
The first competitor to start will be the one with the lowest total time from the three previous stages. Subsequent competitors will start according to their time difference from the first competitor. All competitors who are more than one hour behind the leader, as well as those who missed a stage or were disqualified, will start in a Mass Start, one hour after the start of the class leader.
The following example shows the overall results after the three forest stages.
1º Thierry Gueorgiou -> 3:05:00
2º Daniel Hubmann -> 3:07:00
3º Olav Lundanes -> 3:07:23
4º Jani Lakanen -> 3:08:19
69º Tiago Aires -> 4:10:00

Beginner Classes (T10, W12 e M12)
These are non-competitive classes. Participants have a free start time, within a time window announced by the organiser.
Open Classes (White, Green, Yellow, Red)
These are non-competitive classes. Participants have a free start time, within a time window announced by the organiser.
They may take part individually or in groups, with no restrictions regarding gender or age.
Division of Elite Classes
If the number of entries exceeds 90 athletes, the Elite class will be divided into two groups.
A specific division will be made for the Sprint WRE + Night Sprint, based on the IOF Sprint World Ranking.
A separate division will be made for the Forest races, based on the IOF Forest World Ranking.
Athletes entered in the Elite class will receive two bib numbers — one for the Sprint races and another for the Forest races.
Division of the Remaining Classes
Classes with more than 90 entrants will be split in two classes/heats (this is very likely for classes M45, M50, M55, M60, M65 and M70).
The classes/heats will be named as follows (example): M55-1 and M55-2.
The division will be made so that each group has an approximately equal number of athletes.
In the following example, there are 145 entrants in class M55, including 20 Portuguese affiliated athletes and 125 non-affiliated athletes (Portuguese or foreign).
- M55-1
- 20 Portuguese affiliated athletes
- The first 53 non-affiliated athletes to register
- M55-2
- The remaining 72 athletes
All Portuguese Orienteering Federation affiliated athletes will be on the same Class/Heat due to Portuguese Cup ranking requirements.
